Al Jazeera started in 1998 as the first independent news channel in the Arab world dedicated to covering and uncovering stories in the region. 7 A reporter and a cameraman from Qatari television channel Al Jazeera were killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza City. “Journalist Ismail al-Ghul and his cameraman, Rami al-Refi, were killed in an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip,” the channel reported, clarifying that the attack targeted “a car near the Aydia sector, west of Gaza City.” Their colleague, Anas Al Sharif, told Al Jazeera that Gul and Rifi were on their way to film near the home of Ismail Haniya, the assassinated Hamas leader in Iran. According to the Hamas government, the two new deaths bring to 165 the number of Palestinian journalists killed by Israeli fire since October 7, 2023.
