Les start-up africaines IA ont levé 1,2 milliard $ entre janvier 2019 et mars 2025 (Heirs Technologies) Date de création: 05 septembre 2025 08:37 (Agence Ecofin) - Si l’Afrique du Sud, le Nigeria, le Kenya et l’Egypte concentrent plus de 86% des levées de fonds des jeunes pousses de l’IA, plusieurs poches d’innovation émergent dans d’autres pays comme le Maroc, la Tunisie et le Ghana. Les start-up africaines spécialisées dans l'Intelligence artificielle (IA) ont levé 1,25 milliard entre le 1er janvier 2019 et le premier trimestre 2025, selon un rapport publié le lundi 1er septembre 2025 par Heirs Technologies, une société nigériane dédiée à la transformation numérique de l'Afrique grâce à des solutions innovantes et adaptées au contexte local. Ces levées de fonds ont été essentiellement réalisées par des jeunes pousses qui développent des solutions d'IA dans plusieurs domaines, dont ceux de la santé, de la logistique, de la finance, de l’agriculture et de l'énergie. Les quatre principaux écosystèmes tech du continent, en l’occurrence l'Afrique du Sud, le Nigeria, le Kenya et l'Egypte, ont accaparé ensemble plus de 86% des fonds levés (1,08 milliard de dollars). L'Afrique du Sud arrive en tête avec 495,52 millions de dollars, grâce notamment à des start-up dynamiques qui appliquent les solutions IA dans des domaines tels que l'optimisation énergétique, de l'analyse client et des infrastructures. Avec 226,1 millions de dollars, le Nigeria arrive en deuxième position devant le Kenya (197,12 millions de dollars), et l'Egypte (161,10 millions). Ces pays surnommés les « Big four » profitent de politiques nationales favorables, d’infrastructures cloud relativement solides, de viviers de talents technologiques importants et de réseaux d'investisseurs plus développés. Le rapport souligne qu’un nombre croissant de start-up africaines actives dans le domaine de l’IA attire l'attention des investisseurs grâce à des innovations très remarquables. Parmi celles-ci, on peut citer InstaDeep (Tunisie), Xolani Health (Nigeria), NeedEnergy (Zimbabwe) et Plentify (Afrique du Sud), dont les solutions couvrent les diagnostics prédictifs, les systèmes énergétiques intelligents, la robotique et les petits modèles linguistiques adaptés au contexte africain. La plus grande réussite du continent en matière d'IA est venue de la Tunisie, où InstaDeep a été rachetée par la firme allemande de biotechnologie BioNTech en janvier 2023, pour plus de 550 millions de dollars, démontrant ainsi la capacité de l'Afrique à développer des solutions IA de classe mondiale. Fondée en 2014 par les Tunisiens Karim Beguir et Zohra Slim, cette pépite s’est notamment fait connaître en développant un système de détection précoce des variants du coronavirus.
