How MOPS Began - Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) was founded on 1973 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado by a handful of moms who were desperate for help and encouragement in parenting their preschool-age children.  From there, it has grown into an international organization that reaches over seventy thousand moms worldwide.

Typical Meeting - A typical MOPS meeting begins by settling your MOPPETS (Preschool-age children) into age-appropriate classrooms with caring volunteers.  Then moms are treated to a time of instruction - usually related to womanhood, marriage, children and home.  This time is followed by small group discussion where women have an opportunity to share joys and struggles with other moms who truly understand what you are going through.  This is an excellent chance to make long-lasting friendships based on the common ground of finally being understood.

Creative Activities - Some weeks, women participate in crafts or other creative activities.  This provides a sense of accomplishment and growth for many moms.  During meetings, refreshments are also provided so that you don’t have to share with your preschooler.  They are having their own.
All Moms Welcome - MOPS International exists to meet the needs of every mom - urban, suburban and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single and married moms - moms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be! MOPS recognizes that the years from infancy through kindergarten are foundational in a mother-child relationship and are filled with unique needs.
One Mother’s Comments - MOPS means I am able to share the joys, frustrations, and insecurities of being a mom.  Our meetings provide an opportunity to hear someone else say ˜I was up all night” or “They’re driving me crazy!” or ˜He doesn’t understand.” While listening to others, I may discover a fresh idea or new perspective that helps me tackle the job of parenting, home management, or being a good wife. It is important to feel normal and not alone.  Burdens are lifted when the woman next to me says, ˜I know exactly how you feel.”  MOPS is a place for my children to interact with peers while I savor some uninterrupted conversation.
