韓 디자인하우스, 2·4나노 선단공정 앞세워 해외 시장 확대 박차 국내 고객사 한계 봉착…中·美·日·유럽으로 눈 돌려 AI·HPC 칩 설계 박차 반도체ㆍ디스플레이 입력 :2025/09/16 08:29 수정: 2025/09/16 08:40 국내 반도체 디자인하우스들이 선단 공정 시대를 맞아 해외 시장 진출에 박차를 가하고 있다. 최근 미국 테슬라로부터 AI6 칩 제조물량을 수주한 삼성전자 파운드리(반도체 위탁생산)의 경쟁력이 생태계 속 디자인하우스로 이어지는 모양새다. 다만 국내 고객사 확보가 한계에 부딪히면서 해외로 눈을 돌리고 있다. 15일 반도체 업계에 따르면 미국 텐스토렌트는 올해 4분기 중 삼성전자 파운드리 4nm(나노미터, 10억분의 1m) 공정을 통해 AI HPC용 칩을 양산한다. (사진=지디넷코리아) 韓 디자인하우스, 선단 공정 내세워 도약 시동 거나 텐스토렌트는 글로벌 반도체 업계에서 살아있는 전설로 불리는 짐 켈러가 창업한 AI 스타트업이다. 주로 고성능 AI 및 머신러닝(ML) 애플리케이션을 위한 맞춤형 반도체와 소프트웨어를 전문으로 한다. 텐스토렌트는 해당 사업을 코아시아세미와 함께 한다. 코아시아세미는 삼성전자 파운드리와 협력하는 디자인하우스다. 양사는 메모리와 I/O(입출력) 칩렛 2종을 함께 개발하며, 양산은 턴키(일괄 생산)로 진행된다. 댄 베일리 텐스토렌트 디자인 책임자는 “코아시아는 반도체 설계 분야의 선도 기업”이라며 협력 이유에 대해 설명한 바 있다. 세미파이브는 하이퍼엑셀과 손잡고 생성형 AI 반도체 ‘베르다(Bertha)’ 공동 개발에 나섰다. 하이퍼엑셀은 LLM(거대언어모델) 특화 AI칩인 LPU를 개발하는 AI반도체 스타트업이다. 세미파이브의 선단 공정 설계 역량과 하이퍼엑셀의 초저전력 연산 기술을 결합해 생성형 AI에 특화된 칩을 구현한다는 구상이다. 이 칩은 삼성전자 4나노 공정을 통해 내년 1분기 중 양산을 목표로 한다. 에이디테크놀로지 등 2나노 레퍼런스 확보 박차 에이디테크놀로지의 경우 국내 AI 반도체 스타트업 리벨리온, 글로벌 IP(설계자산) 강자 Arm과 협력해 차세대 데이터센터용 AI 칩 개발에 나섰다. 리벨리온의 AI칩 리벨(REBEL)에 에이디테크놀로지가 설계한 CPU 칩렛을 통합하는 걸 골자로 한다. CPU 칩렛은 Arm의 ‘네오버스 컴퓨팅 서브 시스템 V3’를 기반으로 설계되며, 삼성전자의 2나노 공정을 통해 양산된다. 가온칩스는 국내 AI 스타트업 딥엑스와의 협력을 통해 사업 확장을 준비 중이다. 가온칩스는 딥엑스의 차세대 칩 ‘DX-M2’를 개발한다. 이 칩은 삼성 파운드리 2나노 공정을 통해 2027년 양산될 계획이다. 시제품 제작을 위한 MPW(멀티 프로젝트 웨이퍼)는 2026년 상반기 팹인 예정이다. 정규동 가온칩스 대표는 “이번 2나노 신규 프로젝트는 최첨단 공정과 차세대 설계 기술이 요구되는 중요한 이정표”라고 기대했다. 조명현 세미파이브 대표(가운데)와 직원이 중국 상해 사무소 개소식에 참가했다. (사진=세미파이브) “국내 시장은 포화 상태...해외 주력해야” 디자인하우스들은 이 같은 선단공정 기술력을 바탕으로 해외 고객사 확보에 사활을 걸고 있다. 국내 고객사의 수가 제한적이기 때문이다. 현재 업계에서는 국내 팹리스 기업을 약 160개 정도로 추정한다. 설계 전문 업체가 아니더라도 칩을 설계하는 자동차, 전자 업체 등을 포함해도 200개 채 되지 않을 것이라는 게 중론이다. 반면, 중국은 3천여개가 넘는 팹리스가 존재한다. 반도체의 왕국 미국은 단순 숫자로는 중국보다 적으나 대형 팹리스인 엔비디아, 퀄컴, 브로드컴 등이 있다. 반도체에 대한 투자를 늘리고 있는 유럽과 일본도 팹리스의 숫자가 점진적으로 늘어나는 추세다. 여러모로 해외에 기회가 더 많은 셈이다. 특히 중국 시장이 주요 시장으로 떠오르고 있다. 코아시아세미는 1997년 코아시아 일렉트로닉스의 대만 설립을 시작으로 범중화권에서 사업을 시작한만큼, 중국 시장에서 다수의 고객사를 확보하며 앞서 나가고 있다. 가온칩스는 내년 초 중국 법인 설립을 위한 절차에 본격 돌입했다. 세미파이브의 경우 중국에 사무실을 두고 중국 기업들과 접점을 늘리고 있다. 에이디테크놀로지와 위더맥스도 중국 고객사 확보에 집중하는 추세다. 관련기사
